Use case
Start here
Choose its place in the home before choosing a finish.
HomeView makes the most sense when several people will use one visible screen for home controls, calls, photos, or kitchen tasks. If everyone is already happy using their own phone, another fixed display may add little. Start with one room and one daily job. The tabletop and wall-mounted versions share the software idea but impose different power, installation, and audio tradeoffs.
Release status
This is an announced product with a future delivery window.
Apple opened preorders on October 13 and announces November 13, 2026 availability. Its US list price is $299 for either model, before optional mounting equipment. The US is among the launch countries; Apple explicitly excludes EU sale at this stage. View Apple’s HomeView models Apple link Apple HomeView Official product page for the announced model. Check Apple Preorder-stage listing; delivery and final offer terms require checkout verification. . No exact Amazon listing was verified in this check, so no unverified marketplace substitute is linked. This is a preorder guide, not a long-term review.
Tabletop or wall
Equal device prices do not mean equal installation costs.
Choose tabletop when you want to try the location before committing to a wall. Choose wall-mounted only after checking reach, camera sightline, mounting method, and how the cable or wiring will get there. Both require power; neither should be treated as a battery-powered tablet.
| Model | Where it fits | Power and installation | Audio distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| HomeView tabletop | Counter, shelf, or shared table | USB-C cable and 30W adapter included; requires wired power. | Two full-range drivers plus woofer and passive radiators. |
| HomeView (Wall Mounted) | A deliberately chosen fixed control point | Compatible wall mount, USB-C cable, and at least 20W power adapter sold separately. | Two full-range drivers; do not assume tabletop bass performance. |
Mounting
Do not build a November plan around the PoE mount.
Apple names three Schneider mounting options. USB-C Wall Connector starts at $59.95 US and AC Wired at $79.95; the $129.95 PoE Wired option is announced for early 2027. Those are announcement prices, not verified checkout totals. Check exact contents and installation requirements before ordering, especially for an AC-wired location. No exact Amazon mount identity was verified. A nearby outlet and a neat cable path can matter more than the device finish.
Compatibility
Check the paired device and the apps you actually need.
Apple’s specification requires iOS 27.2 on iPhone or iPadOS 27.2 on iPad, plus Wi-Fi internet access. Siri personal context additionally needs an Apple Intelligence-capable paired device and supported settings. Siri AI is a beta with language, regional, and usage constraints. HomeView has its own software and a defined app selection: do not assume every iPad app works on it. Confirm the household’s indispensable recipe, messaging, camera, and media workflows before committing.
Shared screen
Plan what visitors can see and what stays personal.
Apple describes recognition for up to six people and a separation between shared experiences and personal information. That is a useful design for a kitchen or hallway, but it still needs household setup and real-world testing. Decide which albums, camera views, and controls should be available in a shared room. Treat face and voice recognition, paired-device proximity behavior, and guest access as things to test during the return window rather than assumptions about privacy.
Alternatives
A shared display is a different job from a personal screen.
| Choice | What you gain | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Keep using your existing phone or tablet | No new device or installation | It remains a personal object that may leave the room. |
| HomeView tabletop | Try the shared-screen idea with an included power supply | Consumes a surface and needs a cable route. |
| HomeView wall-mounted | Create a fixed control point | Budget for mounting/power and choose height carefully. |
| Keep an existing Apple home hub | Avoid replacing a working automation setup | A hub alone does not provide the HomeView screen, camera, or shared interface. |
At a glance
Shared hardware, different enclosures.
| Item | Apple specification | Practical check |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 7-inch, 1088 × 1088 up to 500 nits | Square layout; check readability from the intended distance. |
| Processor and camera | A18; 12MP Center Stage | Feature support is announced, not a measured responsiveness result. |
| Wireless | Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6, Thread | Confirm coverage at the actual mounting point. |
| Tabletop finishes | Silver, starlight, rose pink, space gray | Color does not change the installation requirements. |
| Wall finishes | Silver, space gray | Plan power before selecting the finish. |
Early impressions
Demonstrations support interest, not a reliability verdict.
Tom’s Guide highlighted the shared interface and recipe workflow after an early demonstration. TechRadar described the adjustable tabletop format as useful in a kitchen, but explicitly did not demo music on the wall-mounted version. Neither is a long-term household test. Reddit HomeKit discussion raises practical questions about cable placement and whether a fixed display adds value over phones; those are community questions, not measured failure rates. Independent recognition accuracy, app coverage, sound comparisons, and everyday reliability remain unresolved.
Buying call
Start with a tabletop unit if the shared-screen job is clear.
The tabletop version is the more reversible way to evaluate a new household workflow. A wall-mounted installation makes sense once the location, power, reach, and desired controls are settled. Wait if your essential app or Siri language is unsupported, or if you need proven long-term reliability before adding a household interface.
