reMarkable Paper Pro Buyer Guide

Buy it when handwriting and documents are the main job.

Paper Pro is compelling for someone who wants a dedicated place to write, annotate PDFs, and read without a general tablet’s interruptions. It is a costly choice if you mainly want a color ebook reader or need arbitrary apps, web research, and multimedia beside your notes. Test your real documents and writing habits rather than buying around the idea that a new device will create a routine.

The large color page is useful, but it is a device to carry.

reMarkable lists an 11.8-inch color display with a reading light, 64 GB storage, and a device weight of 525 g. Color helps separate annotations and marks, but this is a reflective writing display, not an LCD replacement. Compare readability, page changes, and handling with your own PDFs. The folio adds to the carried package, so the bare-device weight is not the full bag weight.

The Amazon target is a leather-folio bundle.

The verified Amazon identity includes Paper Pro, Marker Plus, and a black leather Book Folio. It is not the lowest-cost tablet-and-pen configuration. The official US page showed $629 with Marker and $679 with Marker Plus; bundle promotions can change. Compare the same pen and cover when evaluating a discount. Existing reMarkable 2 pens are not compatible with Paper Pro, so an upgrade may require replacing accessories.

Separate basic ownership from Connect.

The official support page says handwriting conversion, cloud integrations, Screen Share, email sharing, and tags remain available without a subscription. Free cloud storage retains synchronization for files used and synced within the last 50 days; that limitation is not the same as a universal local-file deletion rule. Connect adds unlimited cloud storage and additional app and editing capabilities. Check current subscription pricing and the exact feature you need before treating it as either mandatory or irrelevant.

Test a difficult PDF before committing.

The companion apps import PDF and EPUB. The web workflow can convert JPG and PNG images into PDFs, while USB supports PDF, EPUB, and reMarkable document files. The support page gives a 100 MB web/USB transfer limit and directs larger transfers to companion apps. For a research workflow, test a representative two-column paper, a scanned document, and a long annotated PDF; screen size alone does not establish comfortable navigation or legibility.

Your notes need a way back out.

Documented exports include PDF, PNG, SVG, and plain text in the supported workflows. Export a marked-up page and a handwriting conversion early, then open them in the software you actually use. For USB transfer, the documented path enables the USB web interface under Settings, General, Storage and opens 10.11.99.1 in a computer browser. Check current instructions for the exact transfer route rather than assuming cloud integrations behave like a fully synchronized desktop folder.

Use the missing workflow to choose the device.

Keep an existing reMarkable if monochrome writing already solves the job and color or a light would be a minor convenience. Choose a general-purpose tablet when browser research, specialist apps, and richer document workflows need to coexist with handwriting. Choose a smaller reader when portability and reading outweigh a large writing surface. WIRED’s review values the writing experience, color, and light while emphasizing price and accessory incompatibility. Tom’s Guide offers a second hands-on perspective.
