Verdict
Who should buy it
Choose Fold8 for a compact book-style foldable; the smaller outer display and lack of a telephoto camera are deliberate tradeoffs.
Specifications
The exact configuration matters
The observed 256 GB price is not tied to a confirmed color selection.

|---|---|
| Display | The outer display measures 5.5 inches and the inner display 7.6 inches. |
| Battery | The battery capacity is 4,800 mAh. |
| Cameras | The rear cameras include 50 MP wide and 50 MP ultrawide units. |
| Software support | The current software-support duration is unverified here. |
| Price and total cost | The 256 GB option displayed $1,699.99, with the exact color unresolved. |
| Order status | The official page estimated October 21 delivery; its 1 TB Lavender title does not establish the 256 GB color. |
What changed
From Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8
The table separates supported changes from specifications whose predecessor baseline is unknown. Unknown does not mean unchanged, and current-model findings do not establish a generational improvement.
| Area | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 | Net change or carry-over | Buyer impact |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Display and battery | The exact predecessor specification is unverified here. | Fold8 specifies a 5.5-inch outer display, 7.6-inch inner display and 4,800 mAh battery. | The corresponding Fold7 baseline is unverified here; numerical changes are not established. | Choose the current compact shape on its own merits rather than an assumed size or runtime improvement. |
| Cameras | The exact predecessor specification is unverified here. | Fold8 specifies 50 MP wide and 50 MP ultrawide cameras. | The exact camera delta from Fold7 is unverified; a Fold6 owner’s account is a different comparison. | The current lack of a telephoto camera remains a tradeoff, regardless of the generation number. |
| Buying the predecessor | The official Fold7 page reported out of stock. | The Fold8 page estimated October 21 delivery, with the 256 GB color unresolved. | This is a dated offer-status difference, not a delivered-stock or hardware-quality improvement. | A sold-out predecessor listing is not an available fallback, and the new delivery estimate still needs confirmation. |
Alternatives
Choose among different strengths
Released model status is separate from selected stock and delivery. Prices are dated observations with configuration caveats; iPhone Duo remains preorder context as of October 18 and is outside these five.
| Choice | Best fit | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| [Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8](https://fieldguides.co/g/samsung-galaxy-z-fold8) | Choose Fold8 for a compact book-style foldable; the smaller outer display and lack of a telephoto camera are deliberate tradeoffs. | The observed 256 GB price is not tied to a confirmed color selection. |
| [Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra](https://fieldguides.co/g/samsung-galaxy-z-fold8-ultra) | Choose Fold8 Ultra for a larger inner screen and a high-resolution main camera; its premium price and telephoto compromises still deserve scrutiny. | The starting price and the selected Green 256 GB delivery estimate come from separate official observations. |
| [Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold](https://fieldguides.co/g/google-pixel-11-pro-fold) | Choose Pixel 11 Pro Fold for Google’s software and a large folding canvas; reviewers still flag battery life, Tensor performance and app scaling. | A product page and price do not prove stock for a selected color or a dispatch date. |
| [Motorola razr fold 2026](https://fieldguides.co/g/motorola-razr-fold-2026) | Choose razr fold for a large inner screen, battery capacity and pen-oriented work; app transitions and the pen-case arrangement affect daily use. | The exact selected US price and delivery date remain unresolved. |
| [Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold](https://fieldguides.co/g/google-pixel-10-pro-fold) | Choose Pixel 10 Pro Fold when the older model’s lower observed price outweighs its bulky design and missing Pro features; match the offer to the exact unlocked SKU. | The $1,399 observation is the activate-later offer for Moonstone 256 GB, not a different color or a carrier promotion. |
Review evidence
What reviewers and owners actually found
The review and owner accounts describe particular units and software versions; they do not establish reliability rates.
| Source | Evidence | Finding |
|---|---|---|
| tomsguide.com | Editorial review | The review favored the compact, light design and antireflective screens, while identifying the lack of telephoto and limited dust protection as compromises. |
| androidauthority.com | Short hands-on | A reviewer who bought Fold8 found the quick-opening hinge encouraged inner-screen use, but losing Flex Mode mattered. Tent mode was only a partial substitute. |
| reddit.com | Owner account | An owner moving from Fold6 described a camera improvement. This is an individual comparison, not a universal camera ranking. |
Limits
What could change the decision
- The observed 256 GB price is not tied to a confirmed color selection.
- No exact Amazon ASIN was verified for the selected configurations, so there are no Amazon purchase buttons.
- Manufacturer battery claims, review tests and owner anecdotes use different conditions and should not be ranked as equivalent measurements.
