Bottom line
After Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, follow the cockpit, table, and puzzle shelves.
The best seated PS VR2 path is not a single genre. It starts with cockpit and vehicle games, then widens into table-scale adventures, audiovisual puzzle games, rail horror, and a few big flat-game VR conversions. If you want the least compromised chair experience, prioritize games whose camera and hands assume a fixed body: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Gran Turismo 7, No Man's Sky, Ultrawings 2, RUNNER, Moss, Moss: Book II, Demeo, Puzzling Places, Tetris Effect: Connected, Lumines Arise, Rez Infinite, Thumper, Before Your Eyes, and Switchback VR.
Chair test
Read the PS Store play-style label, then apply a stricter chair test.
Sony defines PS VR2 Sitting games as playable while sitting, Standing games as playable standing, and Roomscale games as requiring free movement in at least 2 m x 2 m when that mode is used. For a chair-first buyer, the useful question is narrower: does the game avoid repeated crouching, floor pickups, body dodges, waist holsters, and long arm sweeps?
| Label or pattern | What it means | Chair-first verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Sitting play style | The store page lists only sitting or makes sitting the required style. | Usually the safest bet; still check motion intensity. |
| Sitting, standing | The game supports both fixed postures. | Often good, especially for puzzles, dioramas, and optional-VR flat games. |
| Sitting, standing, roomscale | Sitting is supported, but roomscale is also available and may be mentioned in warnings. | Good only if the mechanics do not require wide swings or floor interaction. |
| VR optional | The base PS5 game has a PS VR2 mode or update. | Check entitlement details; some require a free or paid VR add-on. |
| PS VR2 required | The PS5 version is a VR-first title. | Great for immersion, but not automatically better seated. |
Cockpit picks
Cockpit and vehicle games are the strongest seated-first shelf.
| Game | Store play style | Why it fits seated play | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 | Sitting, standing | The current anchor: PS VR2 support is live, the posture is naturally cockpit-based, and the standard edition includes a large aircraft/airport base. | Online play is required; early store-owner reviews mention cockpit UI and readability friction in VR. |
| Gran Turismo 7 | Sitting, standing, roomscale | The obvious driving equivalent: seated cockpit view, optional PS VR2, and strong review consensus as a flagship PS VR2 experience. | High-speed racing can still be a motion-comfort test. |
| No Man's Sky | Sitting | A huge exploration game with PS VR2 optional support and a store-listed sitting style; good if you want hundreds-of-hours scope rather than a short VR showcase. | Walking, flying, menus, and mining make it less cleanly cockpit-only than MSFS or GT7. |
| Ultrawings 2 | Sitting | The smaller, more arcade flight answer: store-listed sitting style, six aircraft, missions, and optional motion/standard control affordances. | More gamey and less simulation-heavy than MSFS. |
| RUNNER | Sitting | A pure seated arcade motorcycle shooter with a store-listed sitting-only style. | Shorter and more arcade-like than the heavyweight sim choices. |
| Galaxy Kart | Sitting, roomscale | A chair-friendly kart racer with sitting listed and steering-wheel support on the store page. | Store ratings are more mixed; buy for arcade racing rather than polish. |
Hybrid campaigns
The largest seated-compatible games are hybrids, but they need more caveats.
These are the biggest experiences in the list. They are worth trying from a chair, but they are not always as physically effortless as cockpit, puzzle, or rail games.
| Game | Best reason to play seated | Chair caveat |
|---|---|---|
| HITMAN World of Assassination | A full stealth sandbox trilogy-scale experience with PS VR2 support and sitting listed. | You need the correct VR access entitlement, and seated play can make holsters, reloads, and object pickup more awkward. |
| Resident Evil 4 VR Mode | A top-tier action horror campaign with sitting/standing support and a free VR mode for the PS5 game. | Combat reloads and inventory interactions reward arm room. |
| Resident Evil Village VR Mode | The whole campaign is a showcase horror experience with sitting/standing support. | Intensity, jump scares, and first-person locomotion matter more than the chair. |
| Red Matter 2 | A polished sci-fi puzzle adventure with excellent store-owner rating signal and sitting support. | Exploration still involves VR object handling and locomotion. |
| Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge | A story shooter with difficulty options and sitting listed. | Better with a chair that allows full arm extension. |
Tabletop picks
Tabletop and diorama games are the safest long-session recommendations.
| Game | Fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Moss | Essential seated adventure | Third-person diorama action keeps the player mostly anchored while still using PS VR2 presence well. |
| Moss: Book II | Essential seated sequel | Same core seated-friendly grammar as Moss, with more elaborate interactions. |
| Demeo | Best tabletop co-op | A turn-based dungeon crawler built around table-scale play; supports sitting/standing and optional PS VR2. |
| Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked | Modern tabletop follow-up | Sitting/standing support and a D&D-skinned tactical structure make it a natural chair game. |
| Puzzling Places | Best relaxed puzzle shelf | 3D jigsaw puzzles are inherently chair-friendly, and the game has deep add-on support. |
| Ghost Signal: A Stellaris Game | Best seated roguelite table | Commanding a small ship in a tabletop-scale space roguelite avoids body-intensive VR friction. |
| Townsmen VR | Builder pick | God-game city building can work well seated if you have arm room for grabbing and placing objects. |
Puzzle rhythm
Rhythm and audiovisual puzzle games are the highest-confidence chair purchases.
| Game | Store play style | Seated reason |
|---|---|---|
| Tetris Effect: Connected | Sitting, standing | Static puzzle play, PS VR2 eye-tracking feature, haptics, and strong review consensus make it a low-friction default. |
| Lumines Arise | Sitting | A newer Enhance puzzle game with optional PS VR2 and a store-listed sitting-only style. |
| Rez Infinite | Sitting, standing | On-rails aiming, eye tracking, 120fps VR Area X messaging, and music-first pacing work well from a chair. |
| Thumper | Sitting | A sitting-only rhythm action game with simple controls and intense forward motion. |
| Before Your Eyes | Sitting | A narrative VR game built around blinking and eye tracking rather than physical movement. |
Horror
Horror has several good seated choices, but comfort is personal.
| Game | Why it belongs | Filter |
|---|---|---|
| The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR | A sitting-only rollercoaster shooter, so the chair is part of the premise. | Buy only if jump scares and coaster motion sound fun. |
| Resident Evil 4 VR Mode | The strongest action-horror hybrid candidate for seated play. | Needs arm clearance for weapons and interactions. |
| Resident Evil Village VR Mode | A full campaign with sitting/standing support and high production value. | More intense and more motion-sensitive than puzzle or rail picks. |
| The 7th Guest VR | Spooky puzzle adventure with sitting listed and a strong store-owner rating signal. | More mansion puzzle than action horror. |
| Red Matter 2 | Sci-fi tension, puzzles, and exploration with sitting support. | Less horror, more atmosphere and object handling. |
Shortlist
A chair-first shortlist, sorted by how much movement each game asks for.
| Tier | Games | Use when |
|---|---|---|
| Start after MSFS | Gran Turismo 7; No Man's Sky; Ultrawings 2; RUNNER; Galaxy Kart | You want cockpit, vehicle, flight, racing, or driving posture. |
| Big campaign or sandbox | HITMAN World of Assassination; Resident Evil 4; Resident Evil Village; Red Matter 2; Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge | You want a full game and can tolerate motion plus arm-reach interactions. |
| Diorama and tabletop | Moss; Moss: Book II; Demeo; Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked; Puzzling Places; Ghost Signal; Townsmen VR | You want longer chair sessions with less body strain. |
| Puzzle, rhythm, and sensory | Tetris Effect: Connected; Lumines Arise; Rez Infinite; Thumper; Before Your Eyes | You want low room requirements and strong PS VR2 sensory payoff. |
| Horror and rail | Switchback VR; The 7th Guest VR; Resident Evil 4; Resident Evil Village; Red Matter 2 | You want seated intensity rather than relaxed play. |
| Social with caveats | Walkabout Mini Golf; Demeo; Puzzling Places multiplayer; Galaxy Kart | You want online play from a chair and have arm clearance. |
| Try only if you can move | Beat Saber; Synth Riders; Pistol Whip; C-Smash VRS; Horizon Call of the Mountain; Pavlov; Metro Awakening; Behemoth | You are willing to stand, use a stool, or accept compromised seated mechanics. |
Starter paths
Three practical paths from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
- If you want another cockpit obsession: Gran Turismo 7 first, Ultrawings 2 second, No Man's Sky third.
- If you want chair comfort over spectacle: Moss, Moss: Book II, Demeo, Puzzling Places, Tetris Effect, Lumines Arise.
- If you want AAA scale: Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Village, HITMAN World of Assassination, and No Man's Sky, with comfort settings checked before long sessions.
- If you want to demo the range: Before Your Eyes for eye tracking, Switchback VR for rail horror, Rez Infinite for sensory flow, Walkabout for social play.
Setup
Use the right chair and settings.
- Use an armless chair, swivel chair, or stool for Sense-controller games; couches make holsters, reloads, and floor pickups harder.
- Start every new game with comfort settings visible: snap turn, vignette, seated height, dominant hand, subtitles, and turn speed.
- For cockpit games, try a controller or wheel/stick before motion controls if cockpit switches feel too small or tiring.
- For active games with a Sitting label, test one short session before buying DLC or bundles.
- Re-check the PlayStation Store page because PS Plus inclusion, sale pricing, game trials, and VR access packages change.

Claim table
| Where | Claim | Confidence | Source | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chair test | Sony's PS VR2 compatibility documentation defines Sitting games as playable while sitting and Roomscale games as requiring a larger play area of at least 2 m x 2 m. | High | PlayStation Support | Individual game pages still need to be checked because play-style support is game-specific. |
| Cockpit picks | Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 currently lists PS VR2 optional support and sitting/standing play styles on PlayStation Store, after Sim Update 5 introduced PS VR2 support. | High | PlayStation Store | The store page also marks online play required, and user reviews indicate early VR cockpit readability and interaction issues. |
| Cockpit picks | Gran Turismo 7 lists PS VR2 optional support and includes sitting among its VR play styles. | High | PlayStation Store | Racing speed can still trigger motion discomfort for some players. |
| Cockpit picks | No Man's Sky lists PS VR2 optional support and VR play style: sitting on its current PlayStation page. | High | PlayStation | The game mixes on-foot exploration, ship controls, and menus, so comfort differs from a pure cockpit sim. |
| Cockpit picks | Ultrawings 2, RUNNER, and Galaxy Kart all list sitting as a supported PS VR2 play style. | High | PlayStation Store | They vary widely in scope and polish; Galaxy Kart has more mixed store-owner rating signal than the top-tier picks. |
| Hybrid campaigns | HITMAN World of Assassination lists sitting support, and review coverage notes it can be played sitting, but upper-body movement remains important. | Medium | TechRadar | Entitlement and VR Access purchasing details can be confusing; verify the current Store package before buying. |
| Horror | Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village VR Mode both list sitting/standing support for PS VR2. | High | PlayStation Store | Horror intensity and manual weapon interactions are the bigger comfort filters. |
| Tabletop picks | Moss, Moss: Book II, Demeo, Puzzling Places, Ghost Signal, and Townsmen VR all list sitting support on current PlayStation Store pages. | High | PlayStation | Some also support standing or roomscale, so chair quality still depends on reach and object placement. |
| Puzzle rhythm | Tetris Effect: Connected, Lumines Arise, Rez Infinite, and Thumper all have current PS VR2 support and sitting-compatible play-style metadata. | High | PlayStation | Thumper's forward speed can be intense even though the body posture is simple. |
| Puzzle rhythm | Before Your Eyes is a sitting-only PS VR2 game built around blink interaction and eye tracking rather than broad physical motion. | High | PlayStation | Eye-tracking reliability can vary by player, glasses, and calibration. |
| Horror | The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR lists VR play style: sitting and is structured as a rollercoaster horror shooter. | High | PlayStation | Coaster motion and jump scares make it a comfort-specific recommendation. |
| Chair-first shortlist | Current professional PS VR2 recommendation lists consistently surface Gran Turismo 7, No Man's Sky, Resident Evil titles, and Tetris Effect among stronger PS VR2 experiences. | Medium | TechRadar | Best-game lists rank overall quality, not purely seated ergonomics; this guide applies a separate chair-first filter. |
| Chair-first shortlist | Recent PS VR community threads repeatedly recommend GT7, Demeo, Moss, Before Your Eyes, Tetris Effect, Lumines Arise, and similar puzzle/tabletop games for seated play. | Medium | Reddit r/PSVR | Community comments are anecdotal and should be used as ergonomics signal, not objective compatibility proof. |

Active caveats
Some active games work seated, but a stool beats a couch.
Walkabout Mini Golf, Synth Riders, Pistol Whip, C-Smash VRS, Beat Saber, and other physical games may list sitting or be adaptable, but they are not the same class as MSFS, GT7, Moss, Demeo, or Tetris. Use a swivel chair or armless stool, keep arm clearance on both sides, and expect to lose some movement expression. For a chair-first recommendation list, Walkabout is the main social exception because the game is slower, heavily replayable, and highly rated, but even it is better with enough space to swing naturally.
